Classic City-Building Melodies Emerge on Nintendo Music App

In a delightful development for retro gaming aficionados, the complete soundtrack of the beloved Super Nintendo (SNES) title, SimCity, has made its way to Nintendo's dedicated music application, accessible to all Nintendo Switch Online members. This addition brings a wave of nostalgia, allowing players to revisit the auditory landscape of the pioneering city-building simulation.

The SNES rendition of SimCity, originally launched in 1991, was a collaborative effort between its creator, Will Wright, Maxis, and Nintendo, which also acted as its publisher. The game's distinct musical score, crafted by the renowned composer Soyo Oka, who also contributed to titles like Super Mario Kart, comprises a total of 21 pieces. These tracks collectively offer a 23-minute journey through the sounds of urban planning and development. Enthusiasts can now immerse themselves in these cherished melodies, spanning from the 'Title Screen' and 'Village' themes to tracks like 'Disaster' and 'Megalopolis'. Notably, the game itself is currently not part of the 'Nintendo Classics' SNES collection available on Switch Online, despite its prior presence on the Wii Virtual Console before its eventual removal.

This latest update to the Nintendo Music platform follows closely on the heels of another significant musical expansion earlier in the week. That update introduced Free Roam soundtracks from Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World, specifically from Mario Kart World. These additions brought a diverse range of tracks, including various jazz and bossa nova interpretations of familiar themes, such as 'Ground Theme' and 'Beach Theme' from Super Mario 3D Land, and a selection of tunes from Super Mario 3D World, like 'Super Bell Hill' and 'Bowser's Highway'. The continuous enrichment of the music library underscores Nintendo's commitment to offering a broad spectrum of classic gaming experiences, even in audio form.

The inclusion of the SimCity SNES soundtrack on the Nintendo Music app is a notable event for fans of classic gaming. While the game itself is not yet available on the Nintendo Switch Online service, the availability of its complete score, expertly composed by Soyo Oka, provides a rich auditory experience. This move enhances the value proposition for Switch Online subscribers, bringing a cherished piece of gaming history to modern platforms and rekindling fond memories for many.
